I left my heart…
Who could possibly resist the charms of San Francisco?
Even after nearly seven years in Kobe, in its own charming way one of the most spectacular cities in the world, I often find myself longing for the familiar charms of home:
- the crisp air as the evening fog rolls in
- bike messengers on the move in the Financial District
- coffee and a good read at Bazaar Cafe
- a La Corneta steak and prawn burrito
- a Giants matinee under the sun at AT&T Park
- a pizza or cioppino at Villa Romana followed by a nightcap at Yancy’s
- most of all, time with the family and friends I love.
This is just the short list. Trust me, I could go on and on. But by the time I reached the end, I’d already be back there enjoying my first Anchor Steam. Next trip is just three months away!

San Francisco benefits from a density of the aspects that make certain cities a joy to visit. Where most places boast about specific hot spots that make their city a “must see”, their “must sees” generally occupy a few defined blocks (some larger, some smaller) surrounded by banality. Where San Francisco differs is that it is in essence 49 square miles of menu. It is like a mix CD on steroids. In that sense, it is banality surrounded by hot spots, and thus it is a joy to visits.
I like living there. I know there are those who complain about the traffic and parking. I’ve found it to be a nice hybrid of a walking and driving metropolis. For me, I once under appreciated the City’s many offerings, but now I find something new and exciting every day. And seeing that crowds that come in on the weekend to make it their playground, I’d say there are many who agree.
what an awesome shot of san fran! you should seriously think about blowing that up and putting it in the living room. can totally imagine it in one of those furniture catalogs.
